April. The sunshine is already here, the outdoor seating areas are open, and the second half of the month is just as exciting as the rest. Here’s what’s in store for us in terms of sports, culture, and fine dining.

Culture
Galerie BLEU – Yann Letestu · through April 29 Works that blend exotic travels with personal imagination—somewhere between Orientalism and dreams. Just a stone’s throw from the hotel, Tuesday through Saturday. For a relaxing outing midway through your stay.
Gastronomy
Bayonne Ham Fair · April 23–26 Bayonne ham in all its forms, right in the heart of the city. Tastings, artisans, and a lively atmosphere. One of the most local events around—and one of the most genuinely welcoming.
Cider House Season · Through the End of April – Astigarraga On the Spanish side, Basque cider houses are still open for a few more weeks. Txotx is a ritual: you raise your hand, fill your glass straight from the barrel, and enjoy grilled cod, chorizo, and omelets. It’s an experience like no other—and it wraps up at the end of April. We can give you a recommendation.
Sports
Baiona’vélo · April 14 – Bayonne A bike ride around Bayonne, open to everyone. Perfect for a day in the great outdoors without any hassle.
Cesta All Star · April 14, 16, and 23 The best French and Spanish players face off in Cesta Punta. Several evenings are still available this month. Spectacular, deeply rooted in tradition, and just a few minutes away. For those who aren’t yet familiar with pelota, this is a great introduction.
French Bare-Hand Pelota Championship · April 26 and 27 Pelota in its purest form: no gloves, no chistera—just hands and the wall. A rare treat for fans of authentic sports.
Xarnegu Trail Run · April 26 / Nivelle Triathlon · April 25 and 26 For athletes: two great events in locations well worth the trip—even just to watch.
In a nutshell
An exhibition to wander through, Bayonne ham, a final visit to a cider house on the Spanish side before the season ends, and a game of pelota in the evening. The second half of April is anything but a walk in the park—and that’s just fine.
